2012? Bring it on, baby!

It's 2012. Not nearly as cool as 2112, but it's here nevertheless, with its big blank slate of possibilities. The question is: what am I going to do with it?

Answer: pretty much the same thing I did with 2011, with emphasis on completing my book "Fate's Apology". My poor characters have been frozen in some most uncomfortable situations for a while now, as a new job and a new musical gig took over my days. Fortunately that didn't stop me from at least formulating fixes for plot holes, conjuring up what exactly a cutterskiff looks like, and revamping a few characters' back stories. But all that just got slapped into my notes, and now the real work begins: organizing the tangled mess and writing an honest-to-goodness detailed outline so my second-and-a-half draft will run more smoothly and finally make it to the end. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!

When I'm not off playing in Imaginationland with my favorite peeps, I'm getting back on the bassist beast and learning songs in a style of music I've never played before (I'd call it Jewish folk/klezmer music), working towards performances with an all-female trio I was asked to join. That's the new musical gig I mentioned. Word to the wise: playing an instrument is not like riding a bicycle. You CAN forget, or at least your fingers do. I've cleaned off the rust and grown back my calluses, but it took a couple of weeks and moving around the fret board with the ease I had twenty years ago is still something I'm working on. A lot. But it'll come. In the meantime I'm wishing for a fretless, because that'd be a pretty cool new skill to learn since I'm re-learning anyway. Maybe the Fretless Fender Fairy will see fit to grant my wish one day and make my ol' Ibanez jealous. One can hope!

Still working on getting this site the way I want it. Yeah, yeah I know…I need to add some photos, write some rants, and move the whole Swinging Abby story into its own place so it can be easily read in chronological order. That's all on the ever-growing Ta-dah list. I did change the name to reflect why I got this place to begin with though - to get away from MySpace. Man, I don't need space, I need a whole room. MyRoom was the logical choice, especially since The Happy Corner was already taken by a head shop and yeah, I don't need that association, confusion or competition - hah! So there it is. My room to put my stuff for my enjoyment and hopefully that of the half-dozen or so regular readers I know come here. And that's fine. Not looking to change the world with insightful blogs and opinion pieces, although one day I may have to rethink the place should I get lucky enough to need it to promote my book.

But I'll worry about that later. Right now it's 2012. Not nearly as cool as 2112, but it's here with its big blank slate of possibilities. Are you ready? I am. Bring it on, baby!
